The Bible doesn’t mention dinosaurs?

My elderly mom has Fibromyalgia and receiving massages is a good way for her to have some pain relief.  About a month ago I arranged to have someone come to the house and do this for her.  Her name is Donna.  She has been coming for about three weeks.

She came over today and what started out as a normal conversation ended up as an opportunity to share the truth with her about the Lord.

We were talking about science and at one point she remarked, “Take the bible for instance, the bible doesn’t mention anything about dinosaurs.”

I replied, “Actually it does.”  She paused for a moment.  “There are at least two mentions of dinosaurs in Job.  One is called the Behemoth.  The bible mentions the following characteristics about this animal.

1) Its the biggest animal God made.
2) It eats grass like an ox.
3) It lives in the swamp.
4) Its tail is like a cedar tree.

I continued, “Sounds like a ….brontosaurus.  Elephants and hippos have skinny tails, so this animal cannot be one of those.  The bible also mentions sea serpents and dragons.”  We also talked about the flood of Noah, and the evidence for that.

Later she said, “All religions are basically the same don’t you think?  They all speak of God, whether its Allah or Buddha or something?”

I asked her “Do you have a friend?  Whats her name?”  She said, “Julie.”

“Ok, I walk up to Julie and I say, ‘Hello, I know Donna, she does massages for people right?  And she has brown hair?  And she lives in California and has 10 children and is 70 years old…..wait…is this the ‘Donna’ you know Julie?  Julie would disagree.  She might say ‘thats not the Donna I know!’

I went on to explain that simply because someone says the word ‘God’ does not imply its the true God.  Allah and Jesus make very specific claims.  And often they contradict one another.  They cannot be the same Gods.  Its not logically possible.”

At this point you could tell Donna was thinking…which is good.  God wants us to use the brains He gave us.

We talked about how faith is a good thing, but blind faith isn’t.  The book of Mormon, for example, mentions cities, metallurgy, animals, plants, battles, continents, languages, that cannot be found in ancient America by secular scholars.  If it were true the evidence would be there but its not.  People can believe in the book of Mormon if they want to, but having faith in it doesn’t mean its true.  We cannot base our faith on feelings only but on evidence…which will produce feelings.

A person can be sincere and also be sincerely wrong.

Then the conversation switched to discussing how I came to be a Christian, how witchcraft is rebellion against God, “the law of attraction”, reincarnation, meditation and other subjects dealing with the spiritual realm and possible influences by dark forces.

We talked about meditation and how that causes your mind to go into an altered state where you are wide open to spiritual influence. We talked about Edgar Cayce for a bit and how his prophecies were not always right.  I explained to her that Moses said if a prophecy is not 100% accurate its not of God.  Edgar Cayce taught about reincarnation, something Jesus did not speak about.  I explained to her that reincarnation is supposed to balance out the good and the bad.  “So if a wife is beaten by a husband then in the next life the husband will be a wife beaten by her husband.  Thats the law of Karma.”  She nodded in agreement.

I said, “It may appear that reincarnation is just but its not.  Reincarnation actually perpetuates evil and keeps it going because the one who did evil must be reborn to have evil done to them.  The God of the bible is so just and holy and righteous He will put an end to it.  Reincarnation is inconsistent with the bible’s view of who God is.”  She completely agreed that God is holy and just and will stop evil, not keep it going.

All in all it was a great conversation and she seemed interested in further discussions.  Its a great opportunity to share the truth with someone who appears to be seeking for more knowledge about God.  I pray she will continue her search because she will find the truth if she is truly seeking God with all her heart.

If you are a Christian share the truth with those around you.  There is a war going on in the spiritual realm.  The battlefield are the hearts and minds of men and women.

Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places

1 Timothy 2:3-6
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
