John Edwards (not the senator), is a psychic medium lecturer and author, who visited the Kansas City area May 18th to act as a mediator between the living and the dead.  Thousands were expected to attend the event as he communicated “with those who have crossed over to the Other Side.” His website adds that “John exhibited psychic abilities from an extremely early age, and was deemed “special” by many in his family. The fact that he would uncannily know family history and events that took place prior to his birth solidified that fact. Because no fuss was made over these early experiences, he maintained as normal a childhood as possible. Since Psychic Phenomena was so accepted by his family, it was easy for his abilities to flourish. John embarked on developing his own abilities after an encounter with famed psychic Lydia Clar. Lydia made him aware of his abilities and told him his life’s work would be teaching people about it. That mission has been channeled into his work as a medium which enables him to bring comfort and hope to people by reuniting them with those who they loved, lost…and crossed over.”

“Information”

John was quoted as saying the information from the dead “comes through to me in 3 basic ways seen, hearing, and feeling the energy of the person that’s crossed over. In which it is a symbolic type of language.” When communication begins he addresses the audience in attempt to find the person whom the dead want to communicate with, who is usually a living relative.

Some people say John Edwards asks leading questions and uses other techniques for gleaning information from the audience which give the appearance of communication with the dead, but there are things he says that only the dead and the living share, which proves he is receiving communication from “something” other than himself. “I like to think of psychic energy as akin to radio waves. Even without the radio on, the air is filled with invisible signals from countless radio stations operating on their various frequencies. All you have to do to receive them is to flick the radio on and tune the dial” he says. The information Mr. Edwards receives is leading him into a belief system.  “No, to me my work is spiritual, not religious. It’s painting an energy portrait, and whatever framework an individual coming through chooses to use is based on their own belief system, whether Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, or atheistic.” He adds that “atheists have the loudest energy and the most to say when they reach the other side and realize, “Hey, I was wrong, there is an afterlife!” The information that come through John Edwards can be very convincing because he says things only certain people would know.

Preparation

How does he prepare to do psychic work?  Mr Edwards says, “My process of preparing for any type of psychic work is to meditate and pray the rosary.”  This process is so important to him he wrote an entire book on the subject entitled “Practical Praying.”  This gives the impression to many John is a Christian, especially since his book has an image of the Virgin Mary on the front cover and he prays the rosary.  When you go to his website and watch the video introduction for the book a few more clues come to the surface as to what he believes. He says, “Practical praying is about how you use prayer in order to enhance your life. Its praying with a purpose.  Its praying with intent. and its not like ‘I want a better job’ or ‘I want to pray for a husband’…its for raising your vibration for opportunity in abundance in working with the universe…I say the rosary is my weapon of defense that I use, my tool of defense…um…because I was raised Catholic I think if I was raised in a different religion Practical Praying would not be about the rosary it would be about something else. so its less about the rosary and more about the prayer but it does use the rosary as a way of teaching people about the repetition of prayer.”

WHO is he praying to?

He indicates his prayers are to the “universe” but then said his technique for prayer could have been whatever faith he was raised in, so he might have been praying to Buddha, Allah, or whatever you call “God” in your belief system. This sounds harmless on the surface, but after careful examination this idea is impossible.  In the bible God says of Himself He doesn’t change.  The God of the bible cannot, for example, be the Allah of Islam.  Allah never had a son that was deity and to suggest he did is the sin of “Shirk” in Islam.

Compare that to the bible where Jesus claimed to be God’s son and deity. Jesus was never Buddha and didn’t teach reincarnation but taught there is an eternal destination in heaven or hell, not rebirths on earth over and over again.  God is not an impersonal force called “the universe” because God describes Himself has a personal God, separate from this physical universe.

In fact, there are many differences between the God of the bible and what these spirits are telling him about the afterlife.  They say there is no spiritual death (hell), no judgement from God and everyone is doing fine in the afterlife.  The dead are simply floating around the astral plane. These ideas contradict what God says in the bible and not only that contradict some teachings in other religions.  Somebody is lying to John and everyone he gives readings to!

Why is he emphasizing REPETITION REPETITION REPETITION?

John Edwards said he prepares for his psychic work by repetitive prayer with the rosary.  This didn’t surprise me because repetitive prayers induce an altered state of consciousness in the person praying.   In fact it has been estimated there are about 300 ways of achieving an alerted state of consciousness, and most of them involve repetition.  Repetitive movements, singing, praying, drumming, jumping up and down, repeating a mantra over and over again, repetition in the imagination or visualizing , etc can induce an altered state of consciousness.

Why is it important for John Edwards to do this in preparation to communicate with spirits?  Its important because his physical mind will be open to the spirits communication and he knows it.

Sir John Eccles, a Nobel Prize Winner for his research on the brain, concluded the brain is “a machine that a ghost can operate.”  In other words, your physical brain is not the originator of your thoughts.  If your brain is the originator of your thoughts you would be waiting around to see what your brain is going to think of next! Its the SOUL that originates your thoughts in the BRAIN. I’ve seen medical shows on video where doctors try to trace a person’s brain activity by directly stimulating parts of it while the patient is laying there conscious.  The patients finger may move or arm may move or something  What I found the most interesting is when the patient’s finger would move he would say “I didn’t move my finger!” This proves the brain does not originate thoughts but something” else” does…something the bible calls the SOUL.

It is theorized the brain in its normal state is somehow protected from an outside spirit’s influence, but if you go into an altered state through repetition, the connection between your physical brain and the “soul” is loosened.  This allows “another mind” to be a “go-between” producing a universe of illusion in the victims brain.

When John Edwards prepares by praying repetitively his physical brain and soul “loosen their connection” which allows these spirits to communicate to him inside his head. When I was searching for the truth of God several years ago I found altered states of consciousness and spirit communication go hand in hand.  When you are in an altered state you feel a heightened sense of awareness far beyond your normal awareness, and in some cases an ecstatic feeling.  Tragically, many misinterpret this feeling as “I am experiencing God” when in fact they are either experiencing what happens when the brain is in overdrive or their brain is being influenced by spiritual forces.

What the spirits are teaching identifies who they are

The spirits John Edwards communicates with have persuaded him to believe certain ideas.  These ideas contradict the bible, a book that has been proven to be true and speaks on spiritual matters.  Why would spirits say the exact OPPOSITE of what the bible speaks about?  If these spirits are saying the exact opposite of what the bible says…its almost as if…these spirits are deliberately lying!  Thats very interesting because Jesus said satan is a …liar…and thats all he does. What are the spirits lying to him about?

“There is no judgement from God”

There IS a judgement from God for all.  Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.

“There is no spiritual death or hell”

There are many verses on the concept of hell but for the sake of space I will list just one. Matthew 25:41,46 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

God is Allah, Buddha, the universe, however you define Him

God doesn’t describe Himself as these other religious figures in history, as He says of Himself, “There is none like me” (Isaiah 46:9). God is a personal being, not an impersonal force or the “universe.”  He accepts worship only in spirit and in truth, the truth of who He is. God is not a matter of opinion. I can’t define God and you can’t define God,  God is self existing and self defining and doesn’t change Himself around to whatever you believe.  Think about it, I can’t define who YOU are.  I must believe who you are…AS YOU ARE, not as I WANT YOU TO BE.

Praying repetitively using the rosary is how to reach the “divine”

In the rosary a person prays the “Hail Mary” 53 times and “Our Fathers” 6 times depending on the type of rosary a person uses.  It usually takes about 15-20 minutes to finish.  This is about the amount of time it takes for your mind to slip into an altered state using repetition.  In the bible God speaks about the idea of repetitious prayers, and He doesn’t approve of the practice.  God explains people should pray to the “Father” not to “Mary.”  In fact, from Genesis to Revelation when a person prays to anyone other than God that person is considered an idolator by God.  In addition, God says repetitious prayers are what the heathen do.  It is not surprising God ties repetitious prayers to the heathen since He knows this is the technique they use to open themselves up to the false gods they serve.  You see, behind every false idol is a demon.  Repetition forces the mind into an altered state so another “mind” can influence them. Matthew 6:6-7 When you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Communication with the dead through mediumship is a good thing.

In Deuteronomy 18:10-12 God forbids divination, sorcery, spirit contact, consulting mediums, consulting those who contact the dead, casting spells, and heeding omens.  Why does God forbid what John Edwards is doing?  Because God loves us and doesn’t want us to be deceived.  John Edwards is communicating with deceiving spirits posing as the dead.  The dead cannot communicate with the living.  In the bible in 1 Samuel 28:11-20 a medium was consulted  The medium called up Samuel, who was dead, but the medium seemed surprised to see Samuel. Although God allowed Saul to see Samuel, it was for him to receive news of his death the next day. God used Saul’s forbidden consultation with the medium to give him a message that condemned his action. 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 follows up by telling us that one reason that Saul is allowed to die in battle is because he consulted a medium

Everyone has innate psychic ability inside of them.

The “power” real psychic’s tap into is real, but its not coming from a natural ability they have nor is it coming from God.  Please read this for further information on the source.

Attaining a special place in the afterlife is dependent on our works here in this life. John Edwards says “My view of the afterlife is that it’s made of different levels, depending on how spiritual a life we live.”

God teaches in the bible you cannot go to heaven by your own merits or works.  Logic dictates any good deeds you do in a perfect justice system will not outweigh the bad you have done.  Lets say you are standing in a court of law on this planet and you are being convicted of serious crimes you are guilty of doing.  Can you tell the judge “Judge I know I’m guilty, but you should set me free because I’ve done more good than bad.”  Will the judge let you go?  Of course not!  The judge may say, “You aren’t here for the good you have done but for the crimes you have committed.”

Salvation is by faith in Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for your sins, not by what you can do to merit eternal life.

Titus 3:5
not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

Most of these ideas echo what either satan told Eve in the Garden of Eden or the activities of demons in the bible.  I wonder why that is?

Its probably because they aren’t spirits of the dead but demons posing as the dead.  Good Godly angels would never contradict what God has already said. The ideas of the afterlife John Edwards has learned contradict what Jesus said about the afterlife and the bible as a whole which means these spirits are not “spirits of the dead” but “lying demonic spirits.”  Why would your family member lie to you about the afterlife? Because its not your dead aunt John Edwards is talking to.

The dead know nothing and have no more influence on Earth.

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 5
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

Can demons know things about your family that only you know?
Yes because they always around residing in the air (Ephesians 2:2, 6:12)

Can demons teach people their doctrines?  Yes.
1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to deceitful spirits, and doctrines of demons;

Can demons imitate a loved ones voice?
Yes this happens all the time with mediums and spirit communication.

Can demons look like “angels of light” or present themselves as good?
Yes (Corinthians 11:14).

False Predictions

When a medium or psychic has a false prediction thats a good sign they aren’t talking to God because God doesn’t lie and is never wrong.

God’s warnings

There are many warnings from God about communication with the dead or other spirits and I will list some of them here.

Leviticus 19:31
“Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.”

Deuteronomy 18:10-13
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. 13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God.

Consulting mediums or attempting spirit contact with the dead takes us away from seeking God for direction.

Isaiah 8:19-20
“And when they say to you, ‘Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,’ should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them, and I will cut him off from his people.”

God considers communication with other spirits as spiritual adultery.

Leviticus 20:6
6 ‘And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.

In Luke 16:27-31 there is a story of a beggar named Lazarus, and a rich man who died. The rich man finds himself in hell and he wants to communicate, from the dead, to his brothers so they won’t end up in hell either.  He asked that Lazarus should communicate with them (Luke 16:24, 30) but the request was denied (Luke 16:31) because people on earth already have what Moses and the Prophets said (God’s word) which is enough to believe in Him.

Sincerely Wrong

Many mediums and psychics are sincere people, thinking God or a good entity is speaking through them.  They say a demon wouldn’t want to HELP anyone seeking comfort regarding a deceased relative…demons would only want to hurt people.  Therefore a medium or psychic MUST be talking to a loving God or some good entity wanting to help.

Is it true demons want to hurt people because they are evil?  Yes.

Is it the nature of evil to…LIE?  Emanuel Swedenborg, who was not a Christian, made an interesting observation about spirits during his many many years of communication with them.

“Spirits narrate things wholly false, and lie. When spirits begin to speak to man, care should be taken not to believe them, for most everything they say is made up by them, and they lie; so if we permitted them to relate what Heaven is, and how things are in Heaven, they would tell so many falsehoods, and with such strong assertion that man would be astonished; wherefore it was not permitted me when spirits were speaking to have any belief in what they stated. They love to feign. Whatever may be the topic spoken of, they think they know it, and if man listens and believes, they insist, and in various ways deceive and seduce.”

Dr. Peck is a psychiatrist who wrote a book about his experiences with evil in his patients. The quote below is enlightening.

“There is, I suspect, something basically incomprehensible about evil. But if not incomprehensible, it is characteristically inscrutable. The evil always hide their motives with lies.”

Now that is interesting! Jesus talks about Satan and He said something similiar.

John 8:44
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

What is the best way to deceive a person?  Would it be best to tell the truth “I’m a demon I want to destroy you so do what I say” or “I’m going to mix in truth with lies so you will believe just enough to believe whatever else I say.”

The nature of evil is to lie.

Demons can tell you all sorts of “comforting” things about your loved ones and this is the tool they use to get you hooked into believing the rest of their ideas.

What should you do?

If you are a medium or someone who consults mediums please stop what you are doing and know that you are being deceived by evil spirits bent on destroying your eternal life.  Demons would gladly help you pay your bills with money you receive from client readings, or heal you of a physical ailment or help comfort you to destroy your ETERNAL life forever.

Know the information you receive is not coming from within yourself, from nature, the universal consciousness,  the “Akashic records” or from God.  The bible reveals in Acts 16:16 the power behind fortune telling and psychic abilities comes from a possessing demon.  There is no such power within man or nature.

Know you have sinned against God by consulting spirits.  God forbids what you are doing because He loves you and He doesn’t want you to believe lies about Him.  He doesn’t want you to go to separated from Him when you die.  In fact, God loved you so much He came down as a man and took the punishment you deserve for your sins on the cross 2,000 years ago.

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

It doesn’t matter what sins you have or what you have done, God can forgive you.  Admit to God you have sinned against Him.  Seek God with all your heart and He will reveal Himself to you. Believe and trust in Him and not in mediums or other spirits to lead your life.
